XXI (21) Freedom to…
Feedom.
“Someday We’ll All Be Free” -Donny Hathaway. “Free at last, free at last, thank God Almighty, I’m free at last!” -Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. “Land of the free… but not me… not… me…. not, meeee.” -Our false national narrative called out by the great Butterfly AKA Ishmael Butler of Shabazz Palaces and Digable Planets fame.
It has also been said many times, “with freedom, comes responsibility.” In this country we have the idea of free speech, but free speech doesn’t mean that you can say anything and expect there to be no consequences. And we mostly agree that threatening violence towards people is unacceptable, and that we should be held accountable for what we do and say. It was also never promised that when we use platforms to sow fear, hatred and discord amongst the population, that those platforms who promise to serve the greater population would have to allow people abusing those platforms to be able to continue their abusive use.
De-platforming works, if you seek to sow discord, hate and divisiveness, you are free to do so, just do it on your own, and see how that works. Because the truth is, nobody can do anything on their own, we need each other, and we humans need to recognize that need. The battle of the coming years is gonna be between empathy and greed. Scarcity Mindset vs Abundant thinking for everybody. We have more than enough to go around, it’s fear that causes people to hoard resources. It’s fear that makes people think that saying Black Lives Matter is something other than affirming the humanity of a people who have showed our resilience over and over again, yet still find ourselves marginalized by systemic oppression by a form a predatory Capitalism that in it’s late stages, clearly isn’t working for the majority of the planet.
We can do better. We can live in a world that is more egalitarian, and puts humanity over dollars. Money is a tool, it isn’t evil in and of itself, but we need to recognize that a human life is worth more than monetary measures. I dream of a world where we put people first, where when you make a lot of money, you are expected to give a lot back. Hoarding resources is the same thing as a dragon sitting on a pile of treasure hidden in a cave. Don’t be that kind of dragon, be a Bruce Lee type of dragon, “be like water, my friend.” Remember that you can fly, don’t waste you’re life hoarding and hiding in that cave cut off from the rest of the world. Share what you have to offer, you’re life will be immeasurably richer.
Oh, and shot out to the platforms that give me the ability to share my ideas, I hope that they can be a benefit to some people, and I promise to do my best to contribute the best I have to offer.
