CXXXVI(136)TAXILANDIA
A few years ago I was writing a play called “Bushwick Driver for Hire.”
Based on a short period of time when I was driving for Uber, in between managing a bar and… well now… whatever this is.
I wrote about 40-50 pages, and then ended up moving on to other things, thinking maybe I’d come back to it. Of the three plays I wrote this year, that wasn’t one of them.
Tonight I’m going to see a play developed by Bushwick based muti-hyphenate Modesto Flako Jimenez, which is an immersive piece called TAXILANDIA in which my wife and I will ride in his car. Jimenez has 9 years of experience to my off and on year and a half, so I very much look forward to experiencing this. I’ve also crossed paths with Flako through Oye Group, his Bushwick based theatre company.
Tickets for this production co produced by Oye, The Bushwick Starr, New York Theatre Workshop and The Tank were sold by lottery, and I was lucky enough to win one of the drawings. So buckle up, I look forward to sharing my experience tomorrow.
